| Name: | Link |
|---|
Character: Link
Series: Legend of Zelda
Version: Ocarina of Time, after about the third adult dungeon
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Hetero
Appearance:
At 5'10" and a slender 140 pounds, Link embodies that slightly effeminate stereotype of the male pseudo-elf. With long, pointed ears, light blonde hair, fair skin, and very fine facial features set off by large, bright blue eyes, he's definitely a nice-looking guy.
His usual garb consists of high brown leather boots, light green tights, and a forest green tunic belted at his waist with a wide band of brown leather. Atop his head rests a pointed cap of the same forest green as his tunic, and beneath the tunic he wears a white, long sleeved shirt.
Covering his forearms and the back of his hands are a set of leather gauntlets, with silver plates and blood-red gemstones adding protection to the back. On the back of his left hand is a triad of golden triangles, only one of which is filled in, the mark of the Triforce whose essence he embodies. Courage.
Personality:
As the embodiment of courage, one of the three virtues of Hyelian mythology, Link is a strong and quiet warrior whose quest is to rid the world of evil. He doesn't say much (if indeed he says anything), but what he does say and do speaks volumes of his character.
It can be argued that Link is prone to violence and acts of vandalism, though this is debatable. While he has destroyed property and killed several hundred monsters in his quest, it's usually for a good cause.
A lover of music and beautiful things, Link is quite the ladies' man... or he would be, if he made an effort. As it is, while several women seem infatuated with him, it cannot be said that he returns their affections. Then again, one of them is a fish, so...
Abilities/Weaponry:
Link has three (arguably) useful spells, being Din's Fire, Farore's Wind, and Nayru's Love. Din's Fire is fairly obvious; it creates a wide-reaching sphere of flame around Link. Farore's Wind allows him to revisit places he's been, so long as he remembers to set a 'waypoint'. And Nayru's Love encases him in a protective diamond of force, which prevents all damage while at the same time disabling him from casting any magic.
He has several tools and weapons, including a fairy bow, hookshot, a bag of bombs (and mouse-shaped mobile bombs), an enchanted hammer, a bag of exploding nuts (flash-bang type grenades, basically), and a very handy enchanted boomerang.
His primary tools, however, are a shield, an enchanted sword (the Master Sword, a blade forged to combat evil), and the Ocarina of Time itself, with its many enchanted songs.
Weaknesses:
First off, he's not nearly invulnerable. While his tunic and shield provide some measure of protection, any normal attack will be able to hurt him - to say nothing of magic, although he -can- deflect magic with his sword.
Secondly, he has a fairly low capacity for magic. He cannot transport others with Farore's Wind, he cannot guard others with Nayru's Love, and he can only cast any of his spells about three times without resting in between.
History:
The son of a Hyelian woman who had fled to the Kokiri forest, Link was raised as one of the perpetually child-like Kokiri. The only one among them without a fairy partner, Link stood out - and that was a bad thing, to some of the more antagonistic Kokiri.
This is not to say he did not have good friends among them. A special example would be Saria, who is arguably his closest friend throughout the game. It was she that gave him the Fairy Ocarina as he left the forest on the mission given to him by the dying Great Deku Tree.
Throughout his adventures as a youth, Link made some rather startling connections, including the rock-people known as the Gorons and the fish-like Zoras. Among the latter, he was forced to take a fiancee by some very strange circumstances.
After all his trials, young Link finally entered the Temple of Time, where slept the Master Sword. After taking it in hand, he fell into a dreamless hybernative sleep... and awoke a 16 year old man.
In the weeks that followed, he delved into steadily stranger depths, fighting monsters the like of which should never have walked the land, and learning along the way that the path to destiny spanned time as well as distance. It was as he made his way into the temple to return to his youth that he was overcome by the same slick time feeling that had assaulted him the first time he'd drawn the Master Sword from its pedestal...
